TRAMWAYMEN AT PLAY.
» PICNIC AND SPORTS, The tramways employees hold a picnio and sports meeting at Newtown Park yesterday. Early in the day there was a considerable crowd on the sports field and on Iho slopes around, but when the rain camn, obviously to Btay, the people made the best of their way home, plodding along rain-splashed streets. Very few were lucky cuougli to got cars. Up till then overythiug had boded well lor n. good day's fun for everybody. There was a plentiful 6iipply of toys for tho children, and the crowd of grown-ups appeared to bo enjoying themselves. In the end tho sports had to be abandoned, but tho remaining events, and a few additional ones, will be run off on a dato to bo arranged.
