Mr. W. W. Samson, Registrar of the Supreme Court, leaves tor Cliristchurcli to-night. Mr. L. F. Peglor, headmaster of the Hastings District School, has (with Mrs. Pegler) left on a trip to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr. A. Linley, of tho West and Royal Picturos Proprietary, loaves for Auckland by the Main Trunk express to-day on business. A large gathering, representing all classes and creeds, assembled in the Lyceum Hall, Timaru, last niglit to bid farewell and make a presentation to Archdeacon Harper, who leaves to reside in England after 3G years' service as vicar of St. Mary's. Tho Mayor presided, ministers of all denominations were present, and with several representative citizens, spoke highly of the Archdeacon as a fine example of a Christian gentleman. The presents were an illuminated address and an album of views of the church, vicarage, and other scenes, and a purse of H2O sovereigns. Tho mcfting spontaneously sang, "l'or He's a Jelly I Good Fellow," and cheers woro also given, —Press Association. Mr. W. H. Moycs, M.A., B.Sc., assistant of King's College, Auckland, lias been appointed out ot 10 applicants, principal of'tlio New Plymouth High School in succession to Mr. E. Pridlmm who resigned after 30 years' service.—Press Association. The members of tho literary staff of The Dominion held a pleasant gathering yesterday afternoon, when they met in the Editor's room to make a presentation to one of their ntimber, Mr. C. Weston, who is to bo married in a few days. Mr. M. C, Keane, assistant editor, acted as spokesman, and referred to tho high esteem in which Mr. Weston is held by his colleagues as a journalist and a comrade, and thoir desire to give him some token of their goodwill on the occasion of his marriage, and to wish him liapn;ss and prosperity. After Mr. Weston replied, hearty choers were given far him and his fianceo.
