The programme was made up principally "of items by a party from Palmcrstr.n North. Mr.. J). Prousn occupied the chair, and the Mayor of Palmerst.u give a short address. On the Palmerston bowling green \elerday afternoon Ilia holders of I lie AYishurt feathers (Messrs. Tunes, Gemmell, Held, 1 and Hoc]gins) were rut on their defence liy a team from the Terrace land Club (Messrs. .lack. Tiirper, Malcolm, and H. Sollitt). The ch-.i*. laagers proved victorious by 17 points to 12. Dr. Valintine, -Inspector-General of Hospitals, has approved tho plans of the proposed additions to the consumptive annexe at the Palmerston Hospital. Mr. J. l.i. Thompson, of tho Palmerston staff of Messrs.. Dalgcty and Co., lias been promoted to the charge of the linns' auctioneering branch in AVairarapa., and will 1)8 stationed at Ma.sterlon. Mr. Thompson has many friends in Palmorston who, though pleased to hear of Jits promotion, will regret his departure, from Palmerston North. He was an energetic member, of the committee of tho Manawatu Caledonian Society. Mr. George Henry -Daniell,- another of Palmer.-'ton's : early '.settlers.'. ho.s .passed away. Deceased arrived v iu Palmerston in 187 d and has rt'sidcd ; herc ever since, w'ith the exception of,',a brief period, when he took a trip. Home.- He .was.one of (lie oldest trustees, of /Si.;. Paul's ,Methodist Church and was a .worker in{all hiatto.rs connected with 'the".Ch'iirch. He. leaves a...widow and one son—Mr.' It." Daniel), stationmaster at Rotprua. Deceased was 73 .years of age. Regret is expressed in .fho Sandon district at the snddtrn death of Mr. .[. A'Court, aged 50 years. Mr. A'Court was seized with a .paralytic stroke a few days a#o w-hi.l<> returning from, choir practice at Sandon, and never recovered. He. had resided in tho district for many yeans' and was a .prominent member of .the Methodist Church. lie loaves a family o'.' six—three, sons; and three daughters (Messrs. The Mana'wntu Amalonr Athletic Club held its second meeting of tho season on tho sports ground last evening, when two events wore run off—looyds. aJid ttOyds. Tlio first event was won by J,. G. .Parker, D. Stewart being second and E. Paul third. The quarter-mile was won by U. Stewart, A. Gardner second, and J. 'Ford third. Nino started in each event. An organ recital was given in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church hist evening by Mr. C. W. Naylor. Thore was a large attendance and tho programme was greatly enjoyed. Vocal solos wero given by -Mr. .T. Rogers and tho choir also contributed Christmas numbers. The programme rendered in the band rotunda in the Square last night bv tho Palmerston Brass Hand attracted a'large crowd of people.
