WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho Wellington Land Board met yesterday, Mr. James Mackenzie (Commissioner of Crown Lands) presiding. Also present wore: Messrs. .lajncs Dawson, H. t. EUingham, James Georgetti, and W. M'Lenuan. Applications lor laud were ucalt with as noted below: —

Mr. I). E.'Wilsio applied for the freehold title of Sections !-*, Block XJV and XV, Ulunewairua, and it was resolved to obtain a report from tho Crown Lands Kauger. A report was received from the Crown Lands Ranger on Mr. D. P. Bradley's application lor tho freehold title of Section 1, Block V, Maungakarctu, and it was resolved that until further residence amounting to two years and tour months has beon eliected, tho application cannot bo approved. ... Mr. 1(. M'Alister applied to obtain the freehold titlo of Section 31, Block V, Mount Cerberus, and it was resolved to approvo on tho usual conditions. Mr. H. O'Donnell attended and applied to transfer Section 2, Block 11, Waipakura, to Mr. A. M'Kenzie. It was resolved that consideration bo postponed until next meeting, and that a report ba obtained from the Crown Lands Ranger. Mrs. Fanny Parker applied to transfer Section 9, Block V. Tiffin Carrington Settlement, to Mr. Thomas Baker, and it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger, and also request proof from her medical adviser as to the state of her health.

.. The solicitors for Mrs. B. Roberts, lessee of Section 19a, Block I, Aahanga, renewed tho application to transfer the Section to. Mrs. E. M. Woodhouse, and asked that the matter should l-e reconsidered, as Mrs. Roberts wishes to return to the Old Country- It was resolved to 'adhere to the previous resolution. There would be no objection to Mrs. Roberts taking a trip to England. A report was received from the Crown Lands R-anger on Mr. K. Stewart's application to transfer Section 29, Block XIII, Ohinowairua, to Mr. A. Stewart, and it was resolved to agree to the transfer, provided Mrs. A. Stewart ■ admits her husband as a partner on Section —, Block. XIV, Ohinewairua. Mr. N. F. Andrews applied to transfer Section 23, Block X, Manganui, to Mr.' A. E. Sands, and it was resolved to approve on the usual conditions. A report was recoived from the Crown I Lands Hanger cn tho application to transfer Section ' 35, Horowhenua V.S. from Mr. J. Pollock to Mr. J. S. Field, and it was resolved to approve on the dsual conditions. A report was received from the. Crown Lands Ranger on tho application to transfer Scction -16, Block VII, Tararua.'fi'om Messrs. Knyvett and Schaw to Mr. W. R. J. Miller, and it was rosolved. to approve; * •"' George M. Hussey, solicitor, Hunterville, attended,. and a ranger's report was received ou the application of Mr. John Fitzgerald to transfer Section 17, Block VIII, Tiriraukawa, and Section 18, Block IV, to Mr. R. M'Dowell. It was resolved to postpone till next meetin? to allow both parties to atteud. Mr. B. De Malmancho applied to transfer Sections 19 and 20, Block IV, Mount Cerberus, to Mr. S, Sargent, and it was resolved to approve on the usual conditions provided • transferee is eligible and suitable. The ranger and Mr. Ellingham stated that the increased improvements accounted for tho high consideration. Mrs. E. M. Bcvan, lessee of Section 81, Block VIII, Belmont, Normandale 'Set-. tlemont, wrote stating that she wished to give up the section, and it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown. Lands Ranger at next meeting. '' Messrs. Reid, Reid, and Kay, renewed their' application for Section 2a, Block VI, Kaitieke, which was declined by > tho board on August 31 last. It was resolved to adhere to -'the previous resolution; Tho steward-reported that Mr. J. Henderson, lessee of Section 10, Block <V, Hunua, North not! residing, and it was'resolved to call ; npotf him to reside before the end of January, 1912, otherwise his interest would be de-clared-forfeited. ■-■■■ Tho 'stoward reported that Mr. J, Atkinson, lessee of Scction 7, Block VI, Hunua, North Waimarino 1.F., was living by himsolf on the above section, and it was resolved to advise him that his wife and family should take <up their residence also in terms of Sections 18 of tho Regulations. Mrs. Clara Lawson, administratrix in the estate' of W. Lawson, deceased, applied for permission to sublet Section 81, •Block XIV.., Belmont Emiuj Hamlet, to an eligible sublessee, ■ ■ was v resolved to approve provided cne Commissioner.-is satisfied. with the conditions, of the sublease, ■ - . . ■ -

Mrs. G. A. 8011, lessee of Section 27, •Manunui V.S., wrote with reference to 'her non-residence on the section, and it revived to obtain a report. from .tho ranger. iuis. M. Bremncr and E. D. Bremner, lessoa of Section 5, Block VII, Ivaitiekc, wroto asking for a further extension of six months' time in which, to reside, and it was resolved to take no further ac-. tion, so long as Mr. G. D. Bremner resides, as at present, on the adjoining section. Mr. J. 11. Knssell, lessee of Section 3, Block XIV and IV, Pukehau, wrote applying for leave of absencc for nino months to enable him to visit England, he proposed leaving in February It was resolved to approve on the usual conditions. _ t ■-■■■ A circular was read trom the under--Secretory with reference to offering Crown lands- under Section 103, 104, and 105 of the Land Act, 1908. It was resolved to give effect to these sections of the Act in opeuing future lands for selection. ' Having a letteT from F. H. Dowden with reference to the bwird's resolution of December 1, 1911, with regvvrd to -Section 47, Nireaha V.S., it was rosolved to postpone action pending presentation of a report by Mr. Dawson and the Crown Land' Hanger.

Mr. E. Leahy, selector of Section 1-1, Block I, Nukumaru, 1847 acres, applied to have exemption from payment oi'.rent and rates for four years, and it was rosolved to advise him that the board does not seo its way to comply with his request. Mrs. I. Coldstream, lessee of Section 15, Block X, Horopito West V.'b'., wrote with reference to tho deficient improvements on tho same and it was resolved to renuest the ranger to report again. With reference to Mr. E. L. Nitz's lease of S.G.E. '18, Blocks IV and VIII, Wai-nui-oni, and IV Kaiwhatu, aiea, which expires on February 28, 1913, it was rosofvwl to make an inspection during January next. With reference to Mr. H. H. Wardell's lease of small grazing run 53, Blocks XIII and XIV, Rewa, which expires on February 28, 1913, it was resolved to make on inspection, during Ja-nuary next. Applications for the milling tiiubor on ft&otion 26, Block V, Karioi, , from Me&srs. Perham, Lai-sen and Co. and from Mr. Thos. Sowerby were considered. It was resolved to empower the Commissioner to gra&t a license to Mr. Sowerby to mill such an area as he may determine, at the royalties recommended by the ranger, subject to such terms and conditions as he may seo fit to fix. Tho Crown Lands Hanger reported that Mr. Sowerb/s mill must close down •if he could not get an additional area whereas tho other applicants had still a large amount of country to mill.

It was resolved to approvo of Section 8, Block 11, Nukumoru, being offered on renewable lease at a rent of <£38 16s. per acre. No improvements on tho section. It was resolved to approve of Section 2, Ohakune V.S. being reoffered on renewable lease at an. annual rent of £i 16s. per annum. With reference to tho board's Tftsolntion of Ootober 26, 1911, it was resolved to fix tho prairie valuo of th« portion of Section 6, Block V, Karioi, which it is proposed to allot to him at 5.2 10s. per acre (not including timber). With reference to Mr. D. Boss's application to purchase the freehold of Section 25, Block IV, Ivaiwaka, now held on lease ii perpetuity, it was resolved to advise the applicant of the valuation. Mr. -T. M'Cracken, selector of Section 16, Taihape V.S., applied for permission to dedicate an area of 1 acre 0 rodds 26.2 perchos, for a road in terms nf Section 89 of tho Land Aot, 190$. It fras riv solved to ask for payment, of the capital prico of tho area to be dedicated and to recommend tho application for the consent of the honourable, the Hiniiter . foe Landn.

A further report was received from tho Crown Lands Ranger on Mr. P.' Cooney's application to transfer the lease of Section 30, Ohnkune V.S. to A. J. Peterson, postponed from last meeting. It was resolved tp recommend the application for tho favourable consideration of the honourable, the Minister for Lands when tho required improvements have been effected.

Mr. E. R. Wo.ithcrley applied to transfer his leases of 'Sections 29, Block V, Aohanga, 200 acres aad Section 8, Block VIII, I'iiketoi, to Mr. A. I'. Beale. It was resolved to approve on (he usual conditions.

Jlrs. L. V. Woolston npplied to transitu 1 her_ licenses of Scetious 1 and 5, Block XVI, Kaitieke, and 6 acres 3 roods 38 porches, respectively to Messrs. ■IV. M. and J. E. Archibald. It iva_s resolved to postpone consideration and obtain a. report from tho Croini Lands Hanger. . Mr. B. L. Jlalroanche applied to transfer tho lease of Education Reserve, Section li Block XXV, Makuri, to Mr. S. L-iirgent and it was resolved to approve o ii the usual conditions. Tho board Tvill hold its next meeting on January 25.
