EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held yesterday, there being present: The chairman (Mr. Robert Lee) and Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, A. W. Hogg, J. Kobbell, W. C. Buchanan, M.P., H. Freeman, Win. Allan, and W. H. Field. Tho statement of finances disclosed a credit balance of ,£llO7 19s. 3d., as against a credit balance of ,£665 10s. -Id. declared in tho previous month's statement. Tho resignations of the following teachers were accepted :—Mis3 A. L. Earp, Johnsonvillc; Miss M. BeTan, Manakau; Mr. J. C. Davies, Korora; Mrs. Murray, Mona; Miss M'Beth, Gladstone; Miss G. Chatwin, To Aro; Miss Bedingfteld, Huia Road; Miss W. Kay, Greytown. The following works were authorised, and grants voted:—Kaiparoro, clearing and levelling residence site; Tablelands, grate; Kaiwaiwai, levelling and filling; Cross Creek, erection of shed; Kaiwarra, plumbing renewals: ■ Recommendations with. respect to various schools were adopted as follow:— Mitchclltown (accommodation)— That the secretary consult the Department in reference to the best method of providing for tho increasing needs of the district. .South Wellington (dado)-That experiments on the walls of tho smaller building bo made by the cleric of works, and that, if satisfactory; ho proceed with the larger building; that the clerk of works report on the matter of fencing. Ballnnce (fencing)— That the cleric of works report after inspection. Wainui-o-mata—That tho board agree to tho request that the old residence be left in the meantime, provided the committee undertake maintenance. Ohau—That ,£6 10s. be granted as subsidy on expenditures by the committee for permanent improvements. Library subsidies—(a) Ballance, 10s.; (b) Makorua, .£2 10s. It was resolved to make application to the Government for a grant for a teacher's residence at. Carrington (Wairarnpa) and also for a. grant for increased accommodation at Rongokokako. Consideration of a petition from residents between Levin and Shannon asking for tile provision of a school midway between these centres was deferred, ponding the collection of further information on ' the subject. Tho tender of Messrs. Rigg Bros., of Mastertnn, was nccerjted for the additions at tho Masterton District High School. IRRITABILITT.
