Owing to an explosion of gas in tho basement of tho liritish Museum on October 25, two workmen wero slightly injured. The men were searching {or an escape of gas; one of them, it is stated, carrying a torch, whou tho explosion took place. Christmas is approaching fast, nnd it is not too soon to purchase presents for relations and friends. Messrs. R. Hannah and 00., Ltd., are advertising in our "wanted" columns numerous lines of footwear specially imported for the Christmas trade, and we understand they have landed over three thousand cases of boots and shoos during the last, six weeks, all of which must bo sold within tlio next 21 days. Tho Carmarthen County Council recently decided to levy a special country ralo of 2Jd. to covcv tho claims for damage arising out of tho Llanelly riots. Ono member of tho council suggested that tlio town should ]iay the claim, another remarking that Llanelly did not desiro to pay . the lot, as it would meaji a rate of Is. 3d. if levied on the town area only. During the hearing of a compensation case at liow County Court on October 2.i, a medical witness was asked whether tho applicant was suffering from "eompensitis." Judge Sinvly: "What is that?"
