BRIEF BIOGRAPHIES. The following aro c-kctchcs of tho careers of the members elected, iu addition to those previously published:— ME. J. G. COATES. Mr. J. Gordoi Coates (Ivaiparn) was born at Matnkohe, and after being educated at tho local State school entered into pastoral work oi his father's farm, which ho now controls, lio and his brother originated the Auckland Farmers l,nion, Limited, and take an active interest in its management.' He is captain of tho Olamatea Mounted Kifles, and president of tho North Kainara Agricultural Association, and has filled the position of chairman of school committees, lie is also a member of Otamatoa County Council, chairman of North Kaipara Cooperative Stores, and a prominent member of tho Otamatea Racing Club; With county matters he is closely identified, and has on more than one occasion proceeded to Wellington in order to lav tho needs of his district before Ministers. Ho is a tilted breeder of Shropshire sheep and Hereford e.ittle, and is a leading Kaipara pastoriilist.

MR. A. H. lIINDMARSIT. Mr. Alfred H. TTindmnrsh is a solicitor and a member ot tho Municipal Association of New Zealand. lie is also a member of the Hospital ami Cliaritablo Aid Board. In 1905 he was elected to the Wellington City Council in the interest of Labour, for which party he 119W stands for Parliament. MR, J. PAYNE. Mr. John Payne (Grev Lynn), who is n native of Lancashire, is the pem of a barrister. Ho was himself .intended for tho law. but entered commercial life at the ago of 15. Affrr filling various positions in business offices in the Old Country. Mr. Payno came to New Zealand, lie worked on a. farm as a cadet and was also 011 the goldfields for a time, lie then resumed commercial work, and was succeocfnllv engatrod in accountancy in the ofiices of several Auoklnnd firms. On the opening of the Auckland Technical College he conducted the evening commercial classes for tliToe ynar°, and in 190(1 he took over the day. as well as the evening, classes. Ho resigned his position at the college in July'last, in order to devote his time to private business. TJ® stood for Grey Lynn as a Labour candidate. MR. G. R. SYKES. Mr. G. 1?. S.vkes (M'astertou) was best known before tho election as a successful breeder of Itoniney sheen. He was one of the first New Zealand breeders to send sheep to Argentina. Mr. was also for several years secretary t:> tho Masterton A. and P. Association. His farm is at Manaia, near Masterton. MR, W. A. YEITCH. Mr. W. A. Veitcli, up to a few weeks .ago, was employed in the New Zealand railways as an engine-driver, and resided at Cross Crock. Ho is president of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and a mombor of the Huilways Superannuation Hoard.
