MIXED MEETING AT SHANNON. Mr- G. N. Stephenson. presided at a meeting addressed by Mr. W. H. Field on Monday night in the Druids' Hall at Shannon. Mr. Field began his address by referring to the letter which he published in the "Evening Post" on Saturday night, inwhich he stnted:—"l am amazed to learn that rav Labour' opponent, Mr. Eobertson, made the statement, speaking from a cart in Shannon last evening, that in order to block his chances of election,- I had bcoKed the hall for every night up to the second ballot." Mr. Field proceeded to state that he understood ■ now that Mr. Eobertson • had not made such a statement, and he was sorry that he had been misinformed on the matter. He referred to Mr. Robertson's alleged Socialistic proclivities and the rest of his address was largely on the lines of his previous speeches. Mr. Field was bombarded with questions at the conclusion of his address, and then Mr. F. AV. Venn moved a motion of thanks and confidence in the candidate. •Vn amendment, "That this meeting is of the opinion that it would be in the best interests of tho'Dominion if the AVard Administration wore defeated." was moved by Mr. ,Selby and seconded by Mr. C. B. Kobinson. '■ The contending factions in tho hall howled themselves hoarse, and it was impossible for the chairman to say whether the motion or amendment was carTlio meeting concluded with cheers for Mr. Field and counter cheers tor Mr. Robertson.
