In reply they promised to call a meeting of Mr. Clapham's committee on Monday evening, at which tho deputation would be received, and it was agreed that after laying the matter before tho committee tho deputation should retire, aud leave the position to bo discussed by Mr. Clapham's supporters. receiving a Liberal deputation, whereU|K>n it was agreed that before Mr. Pirnson's representatives should bo received a resolution approving of this course should bo placed before Mr. Clapham'n committee meeting. Mr. Poppolwell, secretary of Mr. Simson's committee, was immediately informed of what had transpired, and, further, that if tho committeo passed a resolution in favour of receiving tho delegates, word to that effect would Ixi sent to Mr. Simson's rooms, with the understanding that if the committeo declined to meet tho deputation, no message would bo sent. As the committee decided not .to receive tho deputation from either of lie candidate, no message was sent, and Die oidy conclusion lie could come to was that Mr. Poppelwell had taken it for granted that his delegation would bo received. Mr. Wade reiterated that no discourtesy was intended, and if nny had occurred blame, certainly could not bo laid upon Mr. C'lapham's committee.
