FIRE AT PALMERSTON.

A high wind was blowing, and at fivst this uouplusscd the brigade. At one time it was thought that the whole block would go. The wind, forinnately, dropped, and the brigade removed the roof of White's office, which was only partially gutted. Sowman had'a heavy stock of Christmas season's goods, and is a heavy loser. He was not insured. Dalgety and Co. lost a number of books and records, which were either burnt endamaged. Among the papers lost was a set of records extending over a period of thirty years, which had been saved from a previous fire by the manager.
