Before the Royal Commission' which is inquiring into the conditions of factory work, several doctors expressed the opinion that labour in factories is deleterious to the health of girls generally. One- doctor slated that it was amongst the greatest of tho causes of immorality, especially where the sexes were mixed. ■Another said .that when girls were earning good wages they did not desire to marry, aud when they did marry, they did not desire children, because this would prevent them from returning to work.
