"TALL FESCUE."
AYritiug after a trip through the AVnngaehu Valley (AYairarapa), our. travelling correspondent remarks on t.ho amount of tall fescue growing on tho sides of the road. It did not, ho fays, however, teem to he making any appreciable headway into tho paddocks. The worst of rubbish of this sort is that it often work? more harm away from its homo, as tho seeds are carried many miles by the streams, and spread on the fertile lands lower down, with the result that farmers on good agricultural land arc sometimes put to much expense and annoyance by having to eradicate this useless vegetation. Many years ago tail fescue was going to revolutionise farming in New Zealand, and there is no doubt, adds the writer, that if it had got a stronger hold tlinu! it did, it would have spent not revolution, but ruination. For .instance, in the Kairanga it must have cost a large sum of money to get rid of it, while even now it flourishes there exceedingly along tho road sides. A good many rabbits arc to be seen in tho AVaValley. On some places it appears as though they do not get tho attention which they should. Neglect in one quarter makes it all the harder for the men who do their best to keep tho pest under.
