RICKARDS'S VAUDEVILLE CO. A change of prograinnin was submitted by Rickards's Yaudovillo Company, which commenced its second week at tho Opera House last evening.- Alcido Capitaine, the captivating trapeze artist, who gives a line exposition of tho poetry of motion in mid-air, repeated ' her performance, and earned tho plaudits of the house. It is one of the very best turns of tho kind cvor seen in Wellington. Mr. Sydney 13a«h, whoso musical comedy beenmo so popular last week, effects a complete change from his costume to tho accompaniment of the "Merry Widow" waltz on the piano, played as ho stands on his head. His Welsh coon song was a novelty, and the clog dauco to his own pianoforte accompaniment was strikingly original. Mr. Jiach's performance is bright and sparkling from first to last. Mr. All Holt's mimicry is distinctly clover. Binns and Binns, eccentric comedians, at their own expense induced explosive laughter, aud,"irheu they made music, it , was good music. Carlton Max, who ventriloquises cleverly, made an innovation by practising his deceptive art among tho audienco. A comic sketch, entitled "The Weary Athlete," was performed by Mr. Pastor with laughable effect, and tho artist's tumbling was distinctly good. Miss Cornwall, who has a charming soprano voice, sang Arditi's "Beauty Sleep," and, for an encore,- "Tho Emerald Isle"—a pretty Irish song. Dainty Fanny Powers preeented a how.budget of imitations, these including Julian Rose as Lovjnsky, Rose Musgroyo in "A Bachelor's Honeyuioou," and Mignonette Kolkin. "My Beloved Queen" was sunj by Mr Godfrey James in good stylo, and, for an encore, he gave the new ballad "To Live in the Light of Your Eyes." Mr. Tom Dawson, whose quiet humour always tickles, sang "Girls, Wives, Kids" and "I'm Going, to-Sing a Song." TLis will be repeated throughout tho week. • HiLLERS' PICTURES. Babies of Wellington still hold pride of place ara"?.g the pictures presented at the Skating Rink. The new lot of "mothers' joys" are a particularly amusing lot. In their disingenuous antics, their smiles, and their toars thero is a wealth of comedy and interest that makes a wide appeal. ■'■' There are , so , 'many sweet little', cherubs to win love and admiration that tho task , of selecting the best is not b.v any means an easy one, and there should be rivalry in the competition, which vill extend throughout tho week. Besides the babies, a capital programme of moving pictures is presented. "The Revenue Man and the Girl" is a breezy drama which breathes . tho air of the prairie, and "Man to Man" is another of those . simple, straightforward, manly playlets which are instinct with tho rug-: ged. force of man. in his.more primitive ; moods. . The .star pictiirejs "Tho Ballet Dancer," a graphically-depicted story of tho stage with a strong love interest woven into its dramatic- mesh. "Calino Turns Bobby," "Captain Barnacle's Baby," "A.Visit to St. Michael's, Normandy" (a beautiful scenic), "Champions of tho Indian Anna" (animal prize fights which took place before the Maharajah of Barod'a), antl Pathe's Gazette, completed a hitrhly-entertaining programme. On Monday next Messrs. Fuller and Sons will present, tho. drama "The Double Event," adapted from Kat Gould's story, by Mr. W. J. Lincoln, and acted before tho camera, in Australia. As the picture is reeled off tho story.will be recited by ..Mr. Alfred Boothiuan, tho veteran Australian actor.. ; . The King's' Theatre orchestra again rendered popular overtures and accompaniments; .-evening abenent performance will be given m aid of tho funds of the Junior Wellington Cricket Association. ' THE NEW THEATRE. The final screening of the current series at the New Theatre took place yes-. terday afternoon and evening-. The customary change is to ,bo introduced today and to-night. A feature of the new. programme is a modern historical episode, entitled "Dewey." The management states that this depicts events leading up to 'the war_ between the United States. and Spain in 1898, and also shows incidents of th<- war itself. ' Admiral Dewey. is one of. the central figures in some of the' scenes. ■". Tho subject is .skilfully handled, and is stated to carry a realistic touchy A characteristic Indian romance, "Dnrfc.Feather tho Sfliiaw," is"described as'a creditable effort oii .the .part: of: the Bison Company. Life among the Red-' Bkins is shown with perfection.of detail. The Ffopwis Company are responsible for o striking dramatisation from everyday life, Chum's .Treacher,* .'• Interest in the East has been roused by the revolution in China, and the scenes of that country should prove one of the most acceptable of the new collection. " Other enjoyable numbers will include "Won by a Foot," "Artificial Butter," and "Tweedledum's Adventure." "FAUST." Lovers of music in this city will have an opportunity of listening to tho performance of "Faust" by the Wellington Musical Union in the Town Hall this evening. Mr. Philip Newbury has been specially engaged for this production and a> tho rehearsals he has very .favotrrably impressed those present by his singing ■of the part of "Faust."*'ln tho trios for Faust, Mephisto, and Valentine( the effect, was very fine.
