Word was received yesterday by th* committoo of tho W.A.A.C. that ilonald Opie, the Canterbury sprinter and New Zealand champion over 100 and 220 yards, is coming up to compete at tho meeting at tho Basin Reserve on Saturday. Iα view of tho Australasian championships at Christinas time, in whioh Opio is tho Now Zealand tprint representative, his appoaranco will i'uniish the local publio with an excellent opportunity of judging the southerner's prospects at tho Mr meeting. The prcsenco of G. N. Hill, tho Auckland runner, holder of tho ono and three-mile and live-milo cross-country championships of tho Dominion is also assured, which means that patrons of Saturday's meeting will see in action two of the best performers in their own departments that New Zealand has ever possessed. Tho two local New Zealand' representatives, L. M. M'Kay and A. Bisset, arc to bo given an opportunity under championship conditions of establishing New Zealand records, the former at tho hop, step, and jump, and the latter at throwing the hammer, in whioh events both arc the present New Zealand chainpions. ;Au ovent of interest was added to tho programme yesterday—a test 220 yds. raco between ilubbard, Coard, and Duncan, of Wellington, and Messenger, of the Wairarapa A.A.C.. to decide which of the quartet are to fill the two places left vacant in the New Zealand selection for this event. \
