T.IIE NORTfIEBN TOUEXAMEM'. OAULT J3EATS TJJACY. (by Tclccraiih.—Succial Correspondent.) Auckland, Ucwmbcr 11. Tho Northern Boxing Association held its tournament to-night. Several Wellington boxers took the ciinatour boutii. Ellis knocked out O'Jlearn, Iho Auckland crack fiMllicr-wcight in tho second round, S. Porter, Iho Wellington lightwoi.sht, was beaten b.v Maloncy, of Auckland, in a four-round conU'St. Porter was much below form.

Tho principal bout of tho evening was a IS-roiind contest between tho two wellknown professional light-weights, T. Tracy, of 'Wellington, and A. Gault, of Auckland, for a purso of Xl2O. Tracy's weight was given as Ost. 121b., and Gaull's as Ost. 111b. Tracy, os usual, opened slowly, and tho first throe exchanges were in favour of Gault, who played for tho body with some success, ami also landed a few good ones lo tho faco. Tracy also got in sorao lefts to the face, but there was not much sting in them. In the fourth round Tracy's defence inrproved, his ducking, and footwork, and blocking causing Gault to miss frequently, but tho Aucklander nevertheless scored with a right and left, whilo Tracy also sent in a few lefts. In tho fifth round Gault nearly knocked Tracy out with a right and left, but good work, enabled the Wellington man to weather tho storm. At the close of the round Tracy just missed an opportunity to knock out Gault. Thereafter Tracy began to pull up points, making jood play with his left in the seventh round. ■ • • In the eighth round, however, tho end came suddenly. Early in. the round a right hook sent Tracy to his tnoes. For a few' moments thereafter he blocked his opponent's attack. Ho then •missed with the left, and' a right jolt to the jaw sent him {o tho boards. He took the count of nine, 'and rose Tather groggily, and clinched, but ho was sent down, rose, and proceeded to clinch. Gault looked to the, referee for a sign, and refrained from finishing his opponent. The towel was thereupon thrown in from Tracy s corner. As it was just on time, it is possible that, had the towel not gone in Tracy might have pulled through the round for, a. few minutes later, he appeared none the worse. As it was, Gault won.
