The vee* sol has 502 passengers on board for New Zealand, and is due at Wellington about noon on Monday. MAITAI'S AfiRIVAIi. MEETS WITH BAD WEATHER. 'At 5 a.m. yesterday R.M.S. Maitai, 3393 tons, Captain W. Stevens, arrived at Wellington from San Francisco, via Papeete and Uarotonca. A report of the round voyage, supplied by the purser (Mr. H. 0. F. Williams) stated that, after leaving Wellington on October 20 flno weather and smooth! seas wore experienced to Rarotonga, where the Maitai arrived at 9 a.m. on October 25. She left again at 1 p.m. on the same day, and experienced flno weather to Papeete, arriving at 3 p.m. on October 27. Here a large cargo was taken on board, and the vessel left for San Francisco at 4.30 p.m. on the following day. Fine weather, with light, variable winds and calm Eeas, wore met with on the final stage of the journey, the Golden Gate being reacheel at 11.30 a.m. on November 9. On leaving San Francisco for Wellington on November 15 the Maitai was a full ship both oa regards cargo space and passenger accommodation. For the first fewdays out a. strong easterly wind, with moderate following seas was experienced, thence fine weather and smootu sea for the remainder of the passage to Papeete, the Island port hcing mode at 5 p.m. on November 26. The veipol took her departs ure at 6 p.m. on tho following day, .'.n-i after a fine passage, arrived at Rarotonga at 4 p.m. on November 29. After loading a quantity of fruit, tho voyage was resumed at 1.30 a.m. on December 1. On the run down to Wellington a great deal of stormy weather was experienced, and this accounted for the Maitai's late arrival. Two days out a heavy S.W. gale accompanied by a heavy sea, was met vi*th, and this lasted for twenty-four hours, after which it veered round to N.W., and blew with hurricane force from that ouartcr, the blow bein? accompanied by heavy rain squalls, and high sea. These conditions continued for another twenty-four hours, when tho weather changed again to the S.W., and continued blowing hard from that direction until nearinc Wellington. The Maitai brought 1960 tons of general cargo and fruit, 1697 tons of which aro for WoUington. At an early hour yesterday morning the Union steamer Kotuku left Duncdin for Wellington, via way ports. She is due here to-morrow morning, and sails for Westport and Greymouth on Monday.

Mr. H. Ilreakspear, assistant purser of the Takapuna, left the vessel at Wellington yesterday. Mr. I. M. Barr, chief officer of the vessel, has also signed off the ship's articles.

Mr. If. C. F. Williams, pursor of tho Maitai, has resigned from tho Union Company's service, in oTdcr to enter into business in Sydney. Mr. Williams has completed fifteen years' service with the company, out of which eleven liavo been spent at sea as purser on different steamers trading between Now Zealand and Australian ports and Vancouver and San Fruacieeo. Mr. It. Carlyon, late assistant purser of tho Monowai, is to bo actine-purser of the llaitai for the run across to Sydney.

At noon yesterday the Government steamer Hinomoa left Onehunga for Wellington, via the Brotberß Lighthouse She is due in port this evening, and leaves for Oook Strait lighthouses early next week.

An expected arrival in port from Suva, via Auckland, this evening is the Island fruit steamer Navua. She proceeds to Westport on Monday.

Owing to unfavourable weather, the Mapourika's trip from Westport to Greymouth has been abandoned this week. Sho left Westport at 9 p.m. yesterday for Kelson and Wellington, and is due in port about 3 p.m. to-day.
