Tho position is that Mr. Buick has an absolute majority of 10, and there are 177 absentee votes to conio, and tho returning officer has received telegraphic notification of. the recording of. 120 of . these. Tlio official recount will take, placo to-morrow, whon tho absentee votes will also probably bo opened. ■
. When tho lord. Mayor (Sir T. Vczcy •Strong) at tho Mansion House received for' custody the Elcho Shield and the international Trophy won by England at Bisley,. Lord Waldogravo, captain of the English Eight said tha.t the shield had! l>een won bv England twenty-seven times. '■ Colonel Stollery, of tho City of London .Artillery, .gave tho Lord Mayor a commission! signed by Uio King, appointing■ him hon. colonel. Tho Lord Mayor said from the humblest rank ho had risen , without any intermediate slops to that: of colonel.
