Mr. A. .7. IWlcy, of Auckland, died somewhat suddenly in that city on Wednesday last. Tho deceased, who in his early dn,yn saw Ken-ice in the navy, was up to tho time of hi.s death managing tho Newton Picture Palace. He also held interests in several businesses in Auckland, and was a prominent Mason. Mr. Jon MacMahon arrived from Anckland by the Main Trunk express j'esterday, on a brief visit to Wellington. Tho Acting-Mayor (Councillor J. Smith), with the Town Clerk (Mr. J. H. Palmer), will represent tho Wellington City Corporation at tho official opening of the Auckland Town Hall. Mr. Maughan Harnett leaves for Auckland to-day, in connection with tho opening of tho new Town Hall and incidentally, Hie big organ presented to the city by Mr. JJenry Brett, which he has been engaged to oj>eii on Thursday next. lie returns to Wellington about December 20. Mr. J. D., Douglas, superintendent engineer for the Dcvonporl Steam Ferry Company, returned from a. trip to America yesterday by tho Maitai. The funeral of tho lato Mr. A, R. V Lodder took place yesterday afternoon. Ihe four sons of the deceased woro 'ho chief mourners, and among thoso present ™;?. : ~ Jlessr3 - Beveridge and U. J. Dr. Gibb. Mr. Joseph MacMahon arrived from Auckland yesterday in connection with tho death of Mr. A. R. V. At the Star Boating Club yesterday afternoon Sir. H. C. AVallace was presented with a case- of pipes by members on the eve of bis departure to Christchurch. In making tho presentation the captain (Mr. A. D. Bayfield) referred to Sir. Wallace's successes as a regatta representative last season. '
