ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
AT EHANDALLAH. Early yesterday morning Claude Haines was iound dead in an outhouse at his residence at. Khandallah- Deceased bad been in business as a batcher in Aro street.
The circumstances related-bv tho police were to the effect that Mr. Haines had of kite been suffering from heart tronble. Un ihursdny he had spent a verv restless night in bed. On Fridav morning he P ot «P at - about 4.43 and did not return. At 5.10 Mrs. Haines got up and on going into the coalhouse sho had found her husband hanging from the roof by a chain attached to a leather strap. Her son cut tho strap, and a medical man was called.
Heart failure from shook was the cause of death.
An inquest will be ' hold at the residence of Mrs.-Haines, Khandallah, al ton o clock this morning.
DROWNED IN WANGANUI RIVER. (By TcleeraDh.-Prcss Association.) , Wanganui, December 8. A drowning accident happened to-day in the river opposite Landguard Bluff, two miles below the'town. Charles Wood, carpenter, married, had been in town at tho election on tho previous dav, and had eelobrated tho occasion. This nfornin" he went to work at Mitchell and Com°pany's new freezing works, but it was deemed advisable to send him home by launch. As tho launch was leaving, and when the other men, were in the engineroom, Wood apparently fell off and was drowned. Dragging- operations have so far been unsuccessful.
At the Tow.n Hall on Sunday evening, at 8.30 o'clock, a thanksgiving servico for tho recent prohibition vote will bo held. A similar service will also be held nt tho Trinity Church, Newtown, at the same time. The general public are invited to attend.
