ROMAN'CATHOLIC CHURCH
CONSECRATION OP NINE ARMENIAN BISHOPS. On Sunday, October 22, the Holy Father received in collective audience (he lathers of the first National Armenian Council held in Rome. The first sessions of the council were held until October 17 inlhe Armenian Church of St. Nicola da Tolcntino, under the nrosidenev of the Patriarch, Mgr. Tcrzian," then, according to arrangements nreviouslv made, (he bathers suspended their mw'tings to enter a spiritual retreat until October 22, when nine new Armenian Bishops were consecrated in St. Nicola bv the Patriarch. Their names are Mgr. Joseph liokassian, Archbishop of Acre, Patriarchal \icar: Mgr. Ignatius Malojan, Arclibisnop of .Varum; Mgr. Joseph Melkisedekian, Bishop of Erzoroum; Mgr. Jajnes iopusian, Bishop of Muse; Mgr. Pasuuul Acklikhm, Bishop nf Adana; Mgr. Gregory Bahabatmui, Bishop of Angora; Mgr Antony Bnhrtbabian, Bishon of Ce<areaMgr. John Naelian, Bishon "of Trebizond; Mgr.Jolm Cuzian, Bishop of Alexandria m Egypt. This is the most imposing episcopal consecration which has ever taken place in Rome- since tho historic morning when his Holiness Vow Pius X consecrated the first fourteen French Lisliops oi tho Separation regime, and it is equally.symbolical of tho authority and jurisdiction of Rome over all tho Bishops ot the Catholic world. Indeed this is nioro strongly emphasised in tho present case, for most of the present confusion and troublo in the Armenian Church is due to the attempt mado bv a misguided section of Armoniau Catholics of Constantuioplo to usurp tho rights not only °l ,' lic ,patriarch and the hierarchy but of tho Holy bce.-Tho "Tablet" (London).
