T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— Some days ago the Prime Minister sent for me and asked me to stand aside from the Suburbs seat in favour of 3lr. Fitzgerald, who is also contesting that seat. He further asked nic to contest a Wellington City scat in their interest. I said that I valued my character too much to bargain it away for political reasons, and absolutely refused to countenance such a proposal. 1 stalyd that as I was the retiring member for the Suburbs I claim that my duty was again to offer myself for that electorate, aud if I have to meet my Waterloo I- will do so fighting. I have stood for tho People's interests as an Independent Liberal, and I am convinced that they will on the 7th act iii such a manner that will give me a l'url her term as their member.
