OTAKI.

A ploaant function, took place on Tuesday evening at. tho Xativo Schoolroom, when tho i-i-ev. J. A. M'Niekle, M.A., was presented by tho Natives with a number of Maori articles, on tho occasion of his severanco as principal of tho Otaki Native College. Tho room was prettily decorated, and supper was served afterwards. Tho gilts wero liandsoma ones. A similar presentation v.m_s made to Mr. Amiitage, assistant master, and tho Eov. Mr. Tuinuera, in making the presentations, referred in high terms to tho capabilities and popularity of both,recipients, and likewise also the sterling qualities of Mi's. M'Niclde. After the ceremony a dance was held. A five-year-old child named — Poole was badly injured on Tuesday night through being thrown out of a buggy, owing to the vehicle capsizing through the horse shying at some unattended bicycles. Throe young ladeis—Misses Freeman, Prouse, and Poole, were sevorcly shaken, while another occupant was bruised. The vehicle was much dameged.
