BETWEEN BRITAIN AND GERMANY,

Disquieting inquiries aro being made in London for insurance rntes to cover the risk of war\ between Britain and Germany, and which have emanated from Germany. Seven per centum is quoted for half a year, ten per centum for a year, and slightly higher rates against tho risk of an outbreak between Germany and some other great European Power. Important firms in Germany have reported that the situation has not improved sinco Sir E. Grey's speech. London houses attribute the feeling prevalent in certain paTts of Germany as possibly due to incorrect newspaper translation of English political speeches. DISQUIETING STATEMENTS. (Rec. December 5, 11 p.m.) London, December 5. Colonel W. Hall Walker,' M.P. for Witlnes, in opening tho headquarters of the King's Liverpool Regiment, emphasised tho need for preparedness. lie said he did not wish to frighten anybody, but a period was approaching when there were possibilities of a great war. He added members of the House of Commons on the baek benches were nwaro that during the last three months preparations were actually in force, and a hundred and fifty thousand British troops were Tinder orders to go and assist in the protection of tho French and Belgian frontiers against the Germans, and that position might occur at any time during tho next eighteen months.
