"There are move labour troubles," writes ( lie Tongau correspondent of the Auckland "Herald." "This time araoug the Native assistants at the hospital, who have sent a joint letter to the chief medical officer, saying <bat, unless their t-aln-riej arc raised, they will be reluctantly compelled to leave work and go out os *i protest. In this connection it may be mentioned that oue of tuo lending traders iii Viivua, beiiiK tired of the trouble of trying to induce Toil Rails and Nieueatis to work, has imported a gang of 19 Indians from Fiji, to do his copra shipping ami general work. It is said that these men are much more satisfactory than the Pacific Islanders, and several others will probably do the same, aiul import labour. There is sure to be the objection raised that the Indian is a menace to the native race, as is the case in Fiji, where tho natives are. being fast supplanted by the coolies; but, on tho other hand, it is artrued that if these labourers are engaged lor a term, and then compelled to lcavo tho country at the end of that term, or else make a new agreement for a fresh term of service, it should obvialc any difficulty with regard to their remaining in the group to engage in trade or take up laud."
