MR. FLETCHER AT MOUNT COOK. Mr. Robert Fletcher, Liberal candidate fur Wellington Central, "addressed ii meeting of between 80 and 30 electors in the Mount Cook Schoolroom last evening. The chair was occupied by Mr. James I!od. Mr. Fletcher, after referring to the work he had done on the City Council and the Harbour Hoard, said it' had l)e?n ■stated that ho did not know enough about general politics to represent the people in the National Assembly. This was n matter that would be settled bv the .people's vote on Thursday next. He was' not going in as a rail-sitter or an opportunist, but as a supporter of the present Liberal Administration. The candidate nroccodcil tn outline the work done by the Liberal Government, paying particular attention to the Old Ago Pensions Act, which ho again averred had been opposed by Mr. .Mawoy and his followers. Incidentally he remarked that if returned he would support any proposal to give medical assistance to the poor who cannot afford to pay for it. Proceeding, he advocated the removal of a couple of million taxation from Customs and putting it on to the . land lax. He would not spend a penny buying the land back from the big holders. He would inaku the people who held these big estates pay such a land tax that they would be glad to cut their land up if they would not.make the land produce what it should he producing, lie believed ill compulsory military training, and thought the present scheme should be given a fair trial, so that the young people should he trained to such a point tliat they would be able to defend tlicir

At each meeting the candidate was accorded a unanimous vole of thanks ami confidence, and cheers v;ere given for Mr, Young and tho Labour party.
