SLAUGHTERING SEASON.
— 4 . A LATE OPENING. Tho slaughtering season is opening vtrj • jato this year. Air. -M. .1. iieuriion, weretni'v of tho local Slaughtermen's Union, • stated yesterday that, at this time last year, this Gear Company wore working : iiiii'o hours per day with a full board of butchers. This year tho board was its yet only half full, and broken (imc was being .worked, .N'o start has yet been made at Castlecliff. Tho Longbu'rn, I'ukiI'alci, Tomoana, and North British Com- i panics have opened their works, but tho output in each case is still very Small. The works at U'aiiwawa wero nnefied fully a month -ago, but the stock, did not com'o forward, ami operations had 'o bo temporarily suspended. A start was again made a little ovet a week ago, but the amount of work available does not by any , means com pare with the amount oflering at this time last year. The late opening of tho season, said Mr. Reardon, was attributed to a wot season and a bad spring. It is expeeted that tjiq total output for the season will ba: much smaller than that of last year. Tho. Gear Company's works last year had a.. , rcird output, but it is unlikely that aiiy. th?ii£ of this kind will be ehroniclcdjn tho season now tardily opening.
