LADY WARD AT WINTON.

NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYED. ll)y Teleeraph.—Press Association.! Invercargill, December 4. Ladv and Miss Eileen Ward went by the afternoon train to Winton, where they were met by ladies of the district, and entertained at a banquet, about 100 ladies beins -present. Mrs. M'Browii presided. Alter dinner, .Mrs. H'William read an address of welcome, stating that "At the exyrass wish of a large section of the lady voters of the Awarua electorate in ■Wintoii" they had asked her to meet them to convey their, sincere desire that she would be loup spared to assist her esteemed husband in the great work which he was carrying on in the dominion. The address went 011 to congratulate Lady \Vnr<l on the waj in which she had assisted her husband in his career, and concluded with the expression of a wish that she should bo long spared to continuo to do so. Lady Ward, who was greeted with lon-:1 applause (the band had played the "National Anthem" as the party entered the hall) expressed her sincere thanks, and avowed special attachment to Awarua, where she felt at home. Mrs. Roche expressed the sinceM I'ipo that Sir Joseph ward would be rottn'iieii at the top 'if the poll cy a very lorn - majority. (Applause.) There was much enthusiasm, and finally "Auld I.ans Syne' and "She's a Jolly Good Fellow" was sans, ami cheers were given for Ladj Ward-and Sir Joseph 1 Ward. ■
