The Labour Department is notifying factory owners and shopkeepers of thoiT responsibilities in regard 1o allowing their employees freedom to vote on election day. As regards shops, tho wholo of tho provisions of tho Act relating to the weekly half-holiday apply to Thursday afternoon, December 7, instead of to Wednesday or Saturday. That is to say, all shops which would ordinarily observe the half-holiday on Wednesday or Saturday must close on Thursday afteriiton this week. All shop assistants, whether in shops that close on a weekly half-holiday or not, must be granted a half-holiday on election (lay.
