There waa.a large attendance at the Town Hall,i Foatherston. on' Thursday night, when Mr. J. T.M.. Hornsby,: the Government candidate, gave. an address.He denied that he was an advocate of, high protection, stating' that his 'actions when in the House, proved that ,hc was against any duties.on fanning machinery. He defended.the Government against (lie charges of excessive borrowing and extravagant expenditure, and claimed that most of the money, borrowed during the past 21 years-was earning interest. His policy, in brief, was 'land settlement." Replying to questions, Mr.. Hornsby stated he was in favour of the' threefifths majority oh the licensing.question; ho would support legislation curbing monopolies, and : was of opinion that the State should control the currency. Mr.' Hornsby received a round of applause at the conclusion of his meeting.
