Mr. Herdman had a cordial reception and a good hearing when he addressed a meeting of electors at • Wndestovrn last evening. Mr. E. Wvlie presided. At an early his address Mr. Herdman ans.wereu an allegation by Mr. Carey that, when the Shops and Offices Amendment Act was before tho House, he had voted to iudreaso the lionra of women workers from 10 to 11' per day. It was true, said. Mr. Herdman,' that ho had moved an amendment making it permissible to work 11 hours per day instead of 10, but this Was merely intended to make the Act moro elastic. Ho had not, proposed to increase by a single hour the hours worked in a week, and in moving the amendment he-had never mentioned women. Turning to the political questions of the day, Mr. Herdman dealt with some of the" principal constructive roformi which the Beform party desires to pass. The latter part of his address was a trenchant criticism of the Government. Having answered a number of questions, Mr. Herdman was accorded a voto of thanks and confidence by aia almost unanimous vote.

Mr. E. J. Carer, the Labour'candidate for Wellington North, addressed between forty and -fifty electors, -mostly women, at, the Boulcott Street Hall last night. The candidate 6tated that ho had received most 'encouraging reports of his chances of success ajid'thal through tho result of the campaign tho incoming Parliament would: have- to pay .attention and give legislative effect to • many of the reforms he'and the rest of. tho Labour candidates had been ' advocating during the'past week or'two. He wanted to see a dozen or so Labour members elected'so- that the reactionaries of both ■parties would; be forced'into one camp, and .there would be, evolyed'a progressive Government, that would make for the better management of the affairs of this oountry. At the close/of the meeting a vote of thanks and'confidence waa carried unanimously.

Dr. Izard, visited Northland for the second time daring hia campaign for the Wellington' North seat,-.and was met by an audience which completely filled the hall. Dr. Izard criticised the methods and'planks'of'the Opposition.'
