OFFICIAL VISITS EXCHANGED,

Yesterday morning the Mayor (Mr. T„ If. Wilford, M.P.), and councillors of th# city, with tho chairman (Mr. Robert Iletchcr) and members of the Wellington Harbour Board, paid a formal visit to his MMlcnty Vice-Admiral Sir George KingHall, Commander-in-Chief of the Austria In-sian Squadron, on board D.M.S. Powerful. Replying to the felicitations of th« Mayor and tho chairman of tho Harbour Board, his Exccllcncy referred to the wonderful .advancement made in the city and port since his last visit, forty-five "years ago, when he landed at an old jettv, the site of which is now in the heart of tho town. Ho congratulated the chairman of the Harbour Board on tho maj;nificcnt growth of the port, and remarked on tho foresight shown in making provision for future developments,- and the facilities on tho wharves for dealing with cargo. Ho thought that fow ports could comparo with Wellington for its convenience and equipment.

His Excellcncy subsequently paid a return visit to the Town Hal], where tho courtesies of tho occasion were extended in tlio Mayoral room.
