There were many other atrocious cases. THE DARDANELLES. Paris, November 29. The French Government is supporting Russia's protest against Turkey's action in improving the defences of the Dardanelles. THE TRIPOLI MASSACRE. LORD ROBERTS'S OPINION. London, November 29. Ficld-Jlarshal Lord Roberts, replying to a correspondent, said it ivas totally unfair to criticise tho late Italian Com-mander-in-Chief at Tripoli (General Cancva) without adequate information being available. No soldier would credit the reports that women and children had been deliberately killed. A desperate situation warranted desperate measures, and tho severest action was usually the most humane. That the innocent suffered with the guilty was inevitable in war.
