THE STRATFORD SHOW

YOUNG BUT VIGOROUS. \ SOME OF THE STRONG FEATURES. AND THE WINNERS. IBj Tolceraph—Special Kojiorter.l Stratford,' November 29. Although it is only young iu tbo show world, tho Stratford A. aud P. Assooiation, which opened its second miiiiia.l show to-day, has the characteristic vigour of youth, and that vigour has enabled ; it to provide 0110 of tlio most interesting of tho shows held on this coast this spring. 'During tho past twelve months the association lias devoted a good deal of attention to its grounds, anil the energy of the committee uas also resulted in u record entry. Enthusiasm is the keynote ot the movement iu Stratford just now. and provided that it is sustained, this fixture will undoubtedly develop into one ot the most important spring engagements ou.the West Coast. Tlio show was'opened: by the Hon. T. Mackenzie. - Naturally pedigree and dairy cattle form the outstanding feature, aud as.was tho-caso at New Plymouth-last week, the Jersey breed is more largely represented than any other. In all, 76 entries.'wore received for the one pedigree Jersey>£?£-; tion—practically one from each of the' foremost breeders in Taranaki ward. The. championships iu this division fell to Mr. W. V. llarkncss. Ilolsteins are not so well ■ represented as they have been at. some of the . other shows,'. Messrs. I''. I. Johnston and New-ton-King filling up most' of one settioii, and the championships both foil to Mr. Newton Kim;. Neither the Ayi'shire nor the Shorthorn classes' arc overburdened with competition, and both Ayrshire champion tickets were lifted by Mr. Fred Mills, of Tokaora. In the Shorthorn class the champions were owned by Mr. Ci. A. Turner. The grade and crossbreds;. fpr dairying purposes are very strong, and the same remark applies to the horse'sections. ■ As has been the case at the other Taranaki shows, the sheep are not as strniwr as one would expect to find them,.but. pi«s are more numerous than 'hey we.re. at Hawcra, Wanganui, and New .'.Plymouth.
