During an affray, Mr. Arnold, tho fourth engineer, and Tobin. a watchman, weTO shot, tho former seriously. Tho Iroublo arose Ihrough a Chinaman attempting to go aslioro against, orders. Tho watchman slopped him, and tho alien called his countrymen from tho ship. They swarmed over tho side, and attacked the. watchman and fourth engineer with sticks and pieccs of iron. A gang of dock labourors oajno to the white men's assistance. A Chinese mess boy then drew a revolver and shot the engineer in the chest. The dock labourers sought shelter. The Chinese started belabouring the fallen officer over the head. Seeing his danger, the labonrers again Tushed out and a fierce fight raged up and down the wharf. Tho Chinese wero gradually forced back to tho ship. The mess boy fired several more shots. One struck tho watchman in the thigh. Tho Chinese went aboard, and all was quiet when tho police arrived. Four of the crew hare been arrested.
