Judgo Chapman had something to say at tbfl Supremo Court this morniue relativi) to the duty of shopkeepers carrying slock of value to take reasonable precautions in maintaining their promises, as for as practicable, sccuro against tho [irtilko of tho expert burglar. Tho statement was made apropos of tho ICohn burglary. His Honour remarked (lint, so far as the protection of tho building was concerned, (ho police could not have done more than had been donoj the street was put rolled and tho shop was lighted to enable imyone passing to soo iusido, but it was a case that showed that ownors of valuable properly could do a great deal more to assist the police. Ho wns sorry to find that, a large number of buildings in which valuable goods woro stocked, both in Auckland and Wellington, woro in such a condition as to givo ready access, and a man nocd scarcely bo ah expert burglar to force an entrance. To carry out such precautions, and to got expert advice as to what should be done to make tho premises secure, was n duty owners owed to themselves, to the public, ' and to the police. '
