PROMISES AND COMMENTS. THE CHANCELLOR'S SPEECHES. VIEWS OF COLONIAL STATESMEN. By Telegraph—Press Association—OopjTiehi London, November it. Mr. Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, addressed n meeting of members of tho Mouse of Commons interested in women's suffrage. He recommended a campaign in the country prior to tho intuduction of tho promised Government Franchise Bill, and promised to assist ic an effort with a view to securing the franchise for women on the broadest democratic Hues. Lady Selborne, a Conservative Vnk.nist, addressing the women's franchise meeting, declared that Mr. Lloyd-George was a fair-weather friend, who when the clouds were lowering got out of tho way, but when it was sunny came forward. He w.is now very anxious to run rouud and gut iu front of their movement. Tho Liberal party Whips were anxious to exclude from the franchise those likely to oppose their party; consequently, (he Whips were wirepullers against women's suffrage. Women, sjiid Lady Selborne, would use tho vote similarly fo men, but would bo moro interested in the children and tho health of tho community. (Rec. November 20, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 25. Mr. Lloyd-George, speaking at Hath, accused tho militant suffragists of being moro anti-Liberal than pro-suffragists, for they favoured a limited suffrage. The road was now clear for an amendment by enfranchising workingmen's wives, and that did not suit the militant suffragists. Men in all parts of New Zealand and Australia considered tha' women's franchise was a great triumph, One statesman described it as widening the horizon of the homo, men losing slaves and finding comrades. SUFFRAGETTES IN COURT. London, November 21. At tho Bow Streot Police CouTt other cases arising out of tiio nifiragetto demonstrations were disposed of. Lady Constance Lyttcn was fined 10s., and ordered to pay damages for smashing tho Post Office windows. Miss Sliallard was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for assaulting a policeman. A number of others were fined 10s. each, and ordered to pay damages.
