After being detained at Auckland for nearly two days through several firemen leaving llio steamer, the Union Steam Ship Company's Navua procured a full complement of firemen, greasers*, and trimmers, and left, for Fiji at midnight on i rnlay. Alterations in the time-table for the \>cllinglon-llult (rains will come into lorce on December 1. Thn principal improvements will be in the direction of making the intervals between the trains in both directions more even than at present. There is now no train from Lower Hutt in the afternoon between 'J.5!l and t.l. Under tho new time-table the latter train.will leave at 3.3(i anil the 4.1 M train will leave at -1.15. ' Another alteration will be in'the running of the 7.M- train each evening from Wellington. Under the present time-table it does not arrive at fMone until 8.5—t00 Into for S o'clock fixtures. After the Ist of nest month it will leave Wellington at 7.30, arriving at Petono at 7.50. The 8.30 train fron'i Wellington will nlso leave 10 minutes earlier, and several other alterations will be made.
That the service of his Majesty, under tho new territorial system is not all joy may be judged from the unpleasant experience of a youth returning from his first parado at ITaleoinbe. He and a companion were cycling along the Stanway llond, and the night was so very dark, befidos being wet, that they had almost to go "by feel"; tho companion had just crossed a narrow bridge when he heard a great splash, and realised that the other, missing the bridge, had gone over a twelve-foot bank into tho creek, and in the darkness an anxious and strenuous timo was spent in assisting the unfortunate one and his bicycle out of tho depths. Mo more serious result than a good wetting had been achieved.
A wireless message received at the Wellington wireless station last night states that the Mnrama, from Melbounio and llobart, expects to arrive at Bluff at 2 p.m. to-day.

The City Coroner (Dr. A. M'Arlhur, S.M.) will hold an inquest at the morguo at 11 o'clock this morning on the body of an infant that was found in Newtown on Saturday.' Dr. \V. IC. I'vlfo made a. post-mortem examination of tho body yesterday.
A gorsc fire near Ohiro Road occupied tho attention of tho Central Fire Brigade yesterday afternoon. Tho call was received at 2.ail p.m. and the fire was extinguished idler some little trouble.
A rather smart rescue was effected by some of the members of the Maranui Surf Club at Lynll Hay yesterday afternoon, Whilst swimming Mr. O." Cotter was seized with cramp. His plight was soon noticed by (hoso on shore, and four members of the Maranui Surf Club ran out in'the. breakers with a life-line, mid brought him ashore. The rescuing squad consisted of the following: Messrs. Clifford. L. Avery, N. Twrrv, and E. Edmund, while Mr. Minifie,' captain of the club, superintended operations.
According to a private telegram great success attended the opening of Messrs. MacMabon and Loddcr's new Queen's Theatre, Queen Street, Auckland, on Saturday night. The continuous picture entertainment diw full houses throughout the evening, and many were unable to gain admittance. The elaborate finish of tho theatre received favourable comment.
A man, named Henry Meach, who had been .staying at Iho Coffee Palace, "Willis btrcct, since October 11, was found dead in bed ou Saturday morning. On a table near the. bed was a glass, which had contained l.vsol, and on the floor was an empty lysol bottle. Deceased, who was a bootmaker by trade, was a married man, but had been living apart from his wife. According to statements furnished to the police, Hcadi went to his lodgings on Friday night under iho influence of li(|iior and as he had not been paying his board, the proprietor of the establishment told him he would have to go somewhere else in the morning. Meach did not show tip in the morning and when his room was entered he was found to be dead. An inquest, will be held at the Magistrate's Court at 3.30 p.m. to-day
