NOTES AND COMMENTS,
[By Glencoe.]
Equitas, lOst. 131b., has been well taken caroof in tho Electric Handicap, at Woo'dvillo; and it is not likely that the Advance mare will be a runner. Tho field is likely to be a big one. Some very smart performers are engaged, but nothing reads moro attractively than Gold Battery, 7st. 71b., who is a remarkably fast horse over a short course.
'Several of tho stock of Multifid aro at present being trained in the Hawko's Bay and Gisborue districts, and, generally speaking, they am highly spoken of. At Gisborne, Mr. C. J. Parker has a particularly fine colt from that great mare Indian Queen. ■
A largo contingent of Hastings horses aro being railed to Feildinp on Monday. Amongst the number aro Bliss, who is looking well after her C.J.C. campaign; Goldfindcr, who is quito himself again, and is doing smart track work; Dazzling, who is just now looking at her best, and seems much improved by her races at Riccarton; Polynices, who went onco round the Hastings plough as fast as Goldfinder one morning recently;. Lord fioult, Sea Engle, Meremere, Seraphic, San Pluio, and Ariom.
Polvnices, who has an engagement in the Hack Hurdles at Feilding, is now looking and galloping better than a,t any time during the past twelve months. W. Griffiths has apparently struck tho right chord in him, and fully expects tho chestnut to account for a race at Feilding. B. Gray is to rido him. J. Plummer, for many years associated with 'the Hastings trainer, J. JI. Cameron, is now negotiating for the leaso of Lamsdorff, and, on its completion, ho will set up as a public trainer. It is his intention to try Lamsdorff over fences. Tho son of Stepniak is an ideal cut of a hurdle horse, and should do well at tho "illegitimato" business. The Kararau jockey, F. D. Jones, is hooked t/o ride Ariom, Meremere, and Lady Menschikoff in their Feilding engagements. Rathlea, a dual winner at the late i'lemington meeting, is a two-year-old full brother to Bcllah, and a. half-brother to Loftus. Hβ was bred by Mr. T. H. Lowry, of Hastings, was shipped to Sydney last autumn, and was purchased by the well-known Eandwick owner-trainer, W. Kelso. After being taken home from the Wanganui meeting, Montiform was gelded aiid turned out. Lately the son of Multiform has not shown the form which he exhibited at Hawera in February last. Acceptances for. the first day's events at the Woodville District Jockey Club's meeting close on Monday night. l\. Ryan, who rode Wee Olga to victory in the Wcltel - Handicap at the Auckland spring meeting, will have the mount on the lierriweo maro in the St. Andrew's Handicap at Takapuna en Wednesday next. It is understood that R. Hatch will have the mount on Effort in the Flying Stakes at Feilding next .Wednesday. Pot Luck, who is one of those weighted for the Railway Handicap in connection with the summer meeting of tho Auckland Racing Club, is an Australianbred horse by Ayr Laddie from Portalucca, who was purchased by his owner, Mr. E. J. Watt, during one of his visits to the other colonies. The Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting will be concluded this afternoon. Hcatherbrae won both her races at the South Canterbury J.C.'s November meeting very comfortably on Wednesday. The conditions of the nack Race did not make it quite clear as to whether she was_ compelled to carry a penalty because of her win in tho Summer Handicap, but Sir. Geo. Clifford asked for tho stewards' ruling on- the poiut, and they decided that she should carry a. 101b. penalty. "Our own" at Hastings telegraphs as follows:—Locally it is not considered tli.>t Bobrikoff, who is quite sound a»ain, will be .1 runner in the Auckland Cup. It is more probable that he will bo reserved for the weight-for-age events. If the stable has a representative in tho raco it will be Bellah, but. that will depend on how lie shapes at Feilding. The big black geldiug, Cullinan, who is now fairly well seasoned, will bo a runner in the llack Hurdles at Feilding, and will bo ridden by "Rangi" Thompson. The Maori horseman has now quito recovered from the broken collar-bone which he sustained at Trenthnm, when Ntdra fell with him on tho second day.
