LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION.
A MISUNDERSTANDING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Taumaruni(i, November 23. Mr. Jlassey was announced to speak hero to-night in reply to the speech delivered last evening by the Prime Minister, but this afternoon a telegram was received from the Leader of tho Opposition at Taihapo stating that, owing to a misunderstanding as to tho time of the starting of his train from Marton, lie regretted that he could not reach there this evening. Mr. Massey stated that ho would speak hero next week. Mr. C. K. Wilson, the Opposition candidate for the Tauinarunui seat, who had been announced to speak in conjunction with Jlr. Massey, thus had the platform to himself. lie had a largely-attended meeting, which was presided over by the Mayor (Jlr. Wackrow). Ho explained the policy of the Opposition at length, and at the close of his speech received a hearty vote of thanks. A motion expressing confidence was withdrawn at Mr..Wilson's request, be stating that the ballot-box was tho proper place for expressing coniidenoe.
