Wedding at Napier. The marriage of Miss Ktliel l-'aulknor, roundest iliiuphter uf the late .Mr. G. l'aulknor. of Napier, and Mr. J. P. Carter, ol liloemhop. Capo Town, was celebrated ou Monday Ity the Rev. Canon Take. The bride was given awav. by her brother, Mr. T. l'aulknor, and was attended by Misses May Faulkner and Fanny liallinger. Mr. D. ,1. Fyfc was best man. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Carter left on a tour of the North Island. The Hutt Rose Show. Like tho Wellington Rose and Carnation Club, with its exhibition last week, the Hutt flower show, which was opened at the Hutt yesterday afternoon, suffered from the exceedingly boisterous weather that has been raging for some time past, and, in consequence, the flowers could hardly be expected to present their best appearance. Roses were, of course, tho prevailing flowers, being a rose show, but there were, nevertheless, some good specimens of rhododendrons, irises, and flowering plants. Of tho latter kind, tho climbing lily, belonging to Mr. Chapman, was particularly noticeable. It was of a deep, brilliant tangerine, like tho tigor lily m shape, only somewhat smaller. Somegood gloxineas 'were shown by Mr. T. Waugh (nurseryman), amongst a large collection of foliage, pot plants tearing names that were absolutely overwhelming in length and difficulties in (ho way of spelling. Chief among the roses was tho "Mildred Grant,'' exhibited by' Mr. C. Trevethick, the president of tho club, a roue that was pronounced the best in tho show. It was a very largo one, white, with the most delicate blush in tho centre of it. Another feature of the show were the decorative effects, somo of the bowls of roses being most admirable. Among those present wero: Mr?. TVilford, wearing a dull saxo bluo coat and skirt trimmed with embroidery, and largo dull blue bat. with flowers and ospre.v plumes; Mrs. Trevethick, the president's wife, in a blue frock, relieved with cream lace, and a black toque with white touches; Mrs. Collins, Mrs. .T. Rose, Mrs. A„ I'earce, Mrs. Harris,' Mrs. Harvey, Mrs. Chapman, Miss Phillips, Mrs. Eric iticldifoni, Mrs. D. Riddiford, Mrs. Stott, Mrs. C. Tringham, Miss Gray < Masterton), Mrs. and Miss Devino. Mrs. H. M. Gore, Mrs. G. Pearce, and Miss M'Rac (Masterton). Tea Was served upon the stage, and ii string band played at intervals during the afternoon.

Sale of Work. A sale of work iu aid of an organ fund was opened in the Anglican Chureliroom at Itoseneath .yesterday afternoon by the acting-vicar -of St. Mark's, the Rev. Mr. Williams. The stalls were iu the charge of the following:—Plain and fancy stall, Mesdames Greenwood, Newey, Morrison, and Phillips; sweet stall, Mrs. Innis anil Miss Greenwood; Christmas tree, the Misses Bernard, Greenwood, Candy, and Phillips; tea room, Mrs. Cox, assisted by Miss Hargraves, Miss Thompson, and others. A musical programmn was also given, those assisting with it being Miss Webb, Master Power. Messrs. J. Bell, Rosovtar, Batten, and others, Obituary. The death occurred at .Otahuhu last week of Mrs. Eliza-Browne, one of the early Nonconformist settlers. Mrs. Browne, with her husband, Mr. Edward Browne, arrived in Auckland in the Annie Wilson. They Went to Port Albert, whero. Mr. Browne.was. engaged in. milling timber, and'"afterwards settled ill - 'North. Albertlnnd. There tliev reared a family of 12—six sous and six daughters—ll of whom aro alive and married.' and have families totalling at. The late Mr. Browne died 19 years ago. . On November 1 the death took place of- Mrs.--Weblejv of -Vanguard Street;'.Nekson, after M years of residenco in that town. The deceased lady arrived by the ship Mariner in 1817, and married tho late Mr.. John Poynter, R.M., who was well-known iu the early days of the settlement .of Nelson. After the death of Mr. Poynter she married Mr. Joseph Webloy. She was noted for her unselfish, cheerful disposition, and was always ready to lend assistanco whenever "she saw tho need for it. She is survived bv a family of four:—Mr. J. P. Poynter, Otalci; Mr. C. W. Poynter, Wanganui ;• .Mrs; A. G. Small, Nelson > •Mrs. E'.'-.B; Lebay,'.of Hope, Nelson.

■Mr. arid Mrs. Edward Anderson returned to Wellington yesterday, from a-visit to England. , Miss I". S[. Allan, M.A., has been appointed temporary Lady Principal of the Otago Girls' High' School, vice Hiss Marchant, resigned, says a Press Association telegram- Miss Allan is at present Senior Assistant Mistress. Mr., Mrs., and tho Misses Sherratt (Gisborne) arrived in Wellington yesterday on their return from a visit to England. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hume (Masterton) passed through Wellington yesterday on their way, via Picton and Kaikoura, to (lie South. Mrs. C. H; Izard returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit 1 to England and the Continent. Mrs. liawson is visiting tho Hot Lakes. Mr. and Mrs. 'I'. L. Buick were passengers for Wellington by the Sydney boat yesterday. Mrs. L. C. Roskruge, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. G. B. Holmes in England, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Manuka. The Hon. 0. Samuel aud Mrs. Samuel left New Plymouth on Tuesday for Auckland. ' Mrs. Carter (Oriental Bay) is on a visit to Auckland. < The marriage took plane recently at St. Andrew's, Hexham (Vie.), of Mr. John D. M'C'racken, of Rangiora (N.Z.), to Miss Helen Urquhart, eldest daughter of Mr. B. E. Urquhart, of Hexham. The bridesmaids wero Miss Una Urquhart, Miss Doris Cummin?, and Miss Edith Armstrong. Mr. Harry Whitehead was.the bqst man, aud Mr. George Ogilvie" and'Mr-Keith Urquhart were groomsmen.
