During the year various competitions in architectural designs for public buildings had been held, as well as for new buildings for other institutions. A copy of the institute's regulations wens in each ca'e forwarded txj the authorities concerned, and in tho majority of cases tho reply had been that the promoters, nnawa.re of the existence of the institute's regulations, had already committed themselves conditions. Tho first number of tho institute's new venture, "A Journal of Architecture," would, it was hoped; bo published in January next. . , uas suggested by the council that the should consider the question of establishing an employment register, to he kept by the secretary of the institute. It was further suggested that tlio time w»s opportune for affiliation to the British Instituto. The finances of the institute were reported to be in a satisfactory condition. Hie Students' Committee reported that a syllabus, of six competitions for students, had been issued oarlv in the last session, but so moagro had been the response that the committee had deemed it inadvisable to continue that course. The whole question of the training of students in architecture was in need of a comprehensive review. After discussion the report referred back to the committee lor further consideration and additional suggestions, with the object of evolving a uniform scheme for the students of the Dominion.

THE ANNUAL DINNER, In the evening tho visiting delesate* were the guests of the Wellington branch at dinner at the Hotel Windsor, the function being a very enjoyable one. Mr. 0. G. Schwartz prosfderi. The .toast of "Visiting Delegates" was proposed bv Mr. W. C. CliatKeld. aiul responded to by delegates representing the Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland institutes. Mr. W. 11. Morton, City Engineer, proposed the toast of "The New Zealand Institute of Architects." which was responded to by tho president Musical and .other .items were contributed by Messrs. H. N. Flt'tcher, \V Northeote. R. W. Wilkinson, James Dykes, and D. D. N. Isaacs.
