A new departure in Christmas cards is presented by Mr. \V. \V. Boyes, the au(hor of many songs and leaflets. The card consists of a Christinas carol enclosed in a very neat mid tasteful cover. The earol is composed to his words by Mr. J. Forrester MacUaer, whose name is well and favourably known in musical circles. An allegorical sketch of "J'oace" is well drawn. As announced on u card for shops where it is for sale at Is., half tlie profits go to a charity for convalescent; children. The official estimates of the strength of the French Army as it was composed last year show that there were under urins 531,101 men, who could be joined at once by 8011,0011 from the. First Reserve. On mobilisation, another 1,100,000 would bo brought up, and 'the last lino of 1,700,000 mukes a grand total of 4,500,000,
