GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES' GRIEVANCES.
Sir,—lf the Reform candidates are elected to Parliament I hope they will try to remove some of the unfair conditions under which low-salaried men are at present working in tho public workshops, Lambton Quay. § These men are payiug, in v :sotne cases, six shillings and sixpence to the superannuation fund per week, and have .not had any_ rise in pay for years, yet - their officers in charge are receiving tjood salaries and many of them have just received good rises; but as usual tho low-paid men aro not worthy of notice. Some of the men have a scrvieo of over ten years, ami are also refused annual holiday leavo, while tho officers and clerks can get holiday leave. Many firms outside, for instance, tho Harbour Board, receive, a month's leave on pay. Just fancy a man paying 6s. Gd. per weok to tho superannuation and retiring at 65 with a pension, in somo cases, of 15s. per week! How loug will many of them live to draw a pension? while tho officers receiving high salaries retire with from sC2OO to dCiOO per annum. No wonder many of the workers are clamouring for a change of Government!—l am, etc., A GOVERNMENT WORKER.
