FEDERAL IRON BOUNTY.

LITHGOW IRONWORKS OVERPAID, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, November 18. The report of Mr. Paul, tho Royal Commissioner, on the iron bounty paid to Messrs. Hoskins, of tho Lithgow' ironworks, was tabled in the Federal House of Representatives. It alleges that bounty was overpaid to tho amount of .£10,251, and states that tho Customs authorities adopted generally looso methods, and failed to properly guard against irregularities. Tho Act stated that tho bounty was to bo paid on pigiron made from Australian ore, whereas 24,000 tons of slag had been used. Tho Commissioner failed to seo how mill cindcrs could bo classed as Australian oro. The Comptroller-General of Customs considers Mr. Paul's figures aro probably in escess of tho amount overpaid, but thinks an investigation is necessary.
