Preparations for the departure of tho T«rra Nova for the Autarkic arc bein" pushed on, and it is anticipated that everything will .bo in readiness for the departure of tho vessel on December 15 Iho various stores and requisites asked lor by Captain Scott are coming to hand ami they will shortly be stowed away in tho vessel's hold. It is common knowledge that tho Terra iNova will take down seven Indian transport mules and fourteen sledge uVs. Mr J. J. Jiinsey, who. has ten acting for Captain Scott, states that in tho event of the expedition not reaching the Pole this season, the mules and dogs would be available as a reserve for an attempt next season. Even if tho Pole is readied this season, a party will in all probability » e le ft m Antarctica to carry on scientific work. The animals will be invaluable for the party for transport work Mr. Kinsev is also sending down twelve sledges, which were asked for by the leader of the expedition. Six of these were presented by an Australian firm and G were procured from Norway. Snow shoes for tho mules and ponies are also being sent down, Iho mules and dogs are now on yuail Island, and are doing splendidly
