the first annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of tho New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held at tho New /ealander Hotel on Mondav evening. Mr ; James Kennedy presided. The secretary s report showed tho finances to be hi a satisfactory condition. It ms decided to hold a meeting at I?wer Itutt in tho near future, with a Vallev lns an athktic club for Hutt The following officers wero elected for the ensuing term-President, }r r . J. Ford; official handicappars—Running, Mr. D. M'Phee; cycling, Mr. J. Kennedy. Applications for permits for sports meetings were erantctl to tho Tunaroa Athletic. Club for December 7. N.Z. Amateur A.A. Council (four cycle event's) for December 26 and 27, Wellington Wheelers' Athletic Club for January 1, 1912, and Druids' Sports Club, Shannon, January 22, 1912. Tho secretary reported on liis trip to Masterton. His attempt to arrange" the amalgamation of t'ho Wairarapa and Wellington ' Centres, however, proved abortive, as tho Wairarapa Centre desired tho headquarters to lie in Masterton, whereas it was tho intention of Wellington to control the centre from here.
Tho following remits were drawn up to bo submitted to the annual conference of tho union delegates, which is to he held at Frank-ton Junction at the end of January nest:—(l) That the entrance and acceptance fees for any event shall not exceed 5 per cent, on the first prize-money. (2) That in the interests of sport generally this centre does not approvo of the present constitution of the union council, aud would suggest that a council l>o appointed by the N.Z.A.A.A., such council to be sot up ill any one of tho chief four centres in tho Dominion. (3) That this centro doss not approve of any increase in competitors' licenses, as submitted from tho council, viz., from 2s. Od. to 3«. (id. for season, and from Is. to Is. Gd. for one-day permits. It is the opinion of members ot this centre that tho foe as now charged is finite sufficient, (t) That championship cycle events as >et out in League rules bo read along with tlm Athletic Union championships.
