GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
(By Telceraota.—Pr«ss Association.! Dunedin, November H. Mr. C. S.' Lanchu, Imperial Chinese Consnl, and a Presbyterian baptised at New York eight years ago, was introduced to tho Assembly this morning, and waa heartily welcomed by tho Moderator. The subject of home missions was introduced by tho superintendent, the Rev. P. B. Frascr, who said that, while- tho homo mission effort had practically stood still in Otago for ton years, in the north the stations had increased from 23 to 75, and at least 50 ministers were still wanted in the north, He urged the Assembly to concentrato on this work. Controversial matter regarding Church' extension was introduced by a scries of regulations dealing with the proposed .■itigmenhition of the tl.ipcnd funds, tho principal efl'oct of which would bo to mako one committee for tho funds instead of two—north and south. Tho southern committee was ngToeablo to tho regulation being sent to tho Presbyteries for a report at the next Assembly, but apparently they oppose a motion which is to be -moved by Dr. Qibb lo the effect that regulations take force as an interim .act.
