NEW CHIEFS FOR WATERSIDE MEN.

BALLOT NEXT WEEK. The Wellington waterside workers had a lively meeting last evening, lasting from 8 till 10 o'clock. Tho principal business was tho nomination of officers to take tho place of those who had resigned as the result of a ballot taken on the question of breaking away from tho Trades and Labour Council to join tho New Zealand Federation of Labout, in the formation of which Mr. It. Scrapie has taken a leading part. A majority of the votes recorded were in favour of the change, whereupon the officers tendered their resignations, which tako effect after the now officers have been elected. Tho meeting was presided over by Mr. F. Curtice (president). The nominations received were as follow •— President, J. CaiT (elected without opposition); treasurer. O. England and G. | Bayley; secretary, G. G. Farland, A. E. Jones, F. M'Cann, W. Connell, J. Tnllett, and .1. Larwood; assistant secretary, L. Glover, G. Bruce, aud T. Jarvis; trustees, P. Green, S. G. Jones, F. Martin, J. Carr, sen., and H. Ham. It was decided that tho election should take place by ballot on Tuesday and Wednesday next. Mr. Chard will act as returning officer, and Messrs. llixon and Stapleton will act as scrutineers. AH the present officers aro to hold office until after the election. In the caso of those who do not poll an'absolute majority of tho votes recorded a second ballot will bo held.
