Hughes, the Federal Attor-ney-General, referring to tho Dean of Saint Paul's cabled statement, declared that Dr. W. R. Ingo was speaking aboul matters which he did not understand. He was tho typo of pampered, narrowminded clerics who wcro getting tho Church into disrepute. Mr. Hughes dccltired that unionists were fighting for better conditions. VIEWS OF TWO BISHOPS. (Rec. Bishop Welldon (Dean of Manchester) and tho Bishop of Birmingham (Dr. Rus-seU-Wakefield) condemn tho pessimism of Dr. Inge (Dean of St. Paul's) as expressed in his speech on democracy at the meeting of tho Women's Diocesan Association. Tho former asserts that there is no reason why the Church should not bo allied with democracy which tends to seenro tho greatest happiness for tho greatest number.
