eAFFAIRS IN THE DISTKICT. The Eastbonrno Borough Council met on Saturday evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. Short), and Councillors Button, Morris, Organ, Pilcher, Ross, and Wills. A letter was received from the Wellington Harbour Board acknowledging receipt of letter re improvements to Kona JJav wharf and Wellington Ferry Jetty, anil stating that it had been decided to instal rope lenders at Kona Bay as all experiment, and to construct a waiting shed on liona Bay wharf. Action had been deferred with regard to improvements on tho Wellington Ferry Wharf until the board's engineer had reported thereon,— Iteceived. Mr. E. G. Pilcher wrote in reference to the encroachment of tho sea at Muritai. —It was decided to reply that while the council recognised the necessity of dealing with the matter, tho finances of the borough would not permit of its being denlt with at present. It wns rewlved to defer tho question of by-laws revision for thrco months. The resignation of Foreman Ci. R. Kells was accepted with regret, and a letter expressing the council's appreciation of his services instructed to bo sent to him. Councillor Button's motion to acquire 1G acres for a public, park for the borough was very fully discussed, but the matter was deferred for consideration at a special meeting on November 2f.
